چکیده
UNLABELLED Therapeutic agents with a goal to eradicate cancer needs to capable of inhibiting the growth and kill, any preformed tumor and should also inhibit oncogenic transformation of normal cells to cancer cells. Bacteriocins are bacterial proteins produced to prevent the growth of competing microorganisms in a particular biological niche and have been proved to possess antineoplastic activity. The entire genome of Lactobacillus salavarius was scanned for putative bacteriocins and subsequently these bacteriocins were characterized by subjecting them as functional annotation algorithms. Azurin is a well characterized bacteriocins with proven cytostatic and apoptotic effect against human cancer cell and was taken as control. Functional characterization revealed that the three bacteriocins Lsl_003, Lsl_0510, Lsl_0554 possessed functional properties very similar to that of Azurin. Molecular screening of these bacteriocins against the common cancer targets p53, Rb1 and AR revealed that Lsl_0510 possessed highest binding affinity towards the all the three receptors making it to ideal candidate for future cancer therapeutics. ABBREVIATIONS P53 - Protein 53, Rb1 - Retinoblastoma 1, AR - Androgen Receptor, Lsl - Lactobacillus salavarius.

Antagonistic Activity of Bacteriocin- Producing Lactobacillus local isolates against some pathogenic bacterial species
Background and Objective: Lactobacilli are known for their probiotic activities and potential to combat pathogens. This study aimed to investigate the antimicrobial activity of Lactobacillus strains isolated from various sources against pathogenic bacteria, with the objective of identifying potential bacteriocin producers. Methods: A total of 140 samples were collected from different sources. ...
متن کاملIn silico analysis of protein toxin and bacteriocins from Lactobacillus paracasei SD1 genome and available online databases
Lactobacillus paracasei SD1 is a potential probiotic strain due to its ability to survive several conditions in human dental cavities. To ascertain its safety for human use, we therefore performed a comprehensive bioinformatics analysis and characterization of the bacterial protein toxins produced by this strain. We report the complete genome of Lactobacillus paracasei SD1 and its comparison to...
متن کاملPartial Characterization of Bacteriocins produced by Lactobacillus acidophilus and Pediococcus acidilactici
Bacteriocin producing Lactobacillus acidophilus and Pediococcus acidilactici were isolated from milk and meat samples, respectively. An attempt was made to produce bacteriocin in a Dairy Based (DB) medium using these organisms. Higher bacteriocin activity was shown by L. acidophilus in the DB medium. Bacteriocins of both the organisms were effective against food pathogens. The bacteriocins were...
متن کاملAssessing Activity and Characteristics of the Bacteriocins Produced by Lactobacilli from Local Yogurts of Behbahan City
Background and Objectives: Lactobacillus spp. are widely distributed in environment as well as dairy products. During the fermentation process, these microorganisms produce various compounds such as organic acids and bacteriocins with antimicrobial activities. The aims of this study were to isolate and identify lactobacilli from local yogurts of Behbahan, Iran, and assessment of antimicrobial a...
متن کاملBacteriocins from Lactobacillus plantarum – production, genetic organization and mode of action
Bacteriocins are biologically active proteins or protein complexes that display a bactericidal mode of action towards usually closely related species. Numerous strains of bacteriocin producing Lactobacillus plantarum have been isolated in the last two decades from different ecological niches including meat, fish, fruits, vegetables, and milk and cereal products. Several of these plantaricins ha...
